MyPC Backup - STAY AWAY

Hello, welcome back and all that rubbish. Today's subject is MyPC Backup that comes installed on HP laptops and probably most "out of the box" computers for sale.

Protection Racket?
I bought my HP laptop due to price and specs. As soon as I got it home I removed all of the programmes installed to "help me" such as McAffe security.... whatever - you get the picture.

So MyPC Backup for some reason made me think... "Im gonna look at this!" - It was marketed to me as part of HP's service and I assumed a genuine one. So I began my "backup"! Well after an hour I was receiving emails and pop ups advising me that my PC was not fully backed up and was likely to be hacked by a professional team of hacktivists from Nigeria. The main message was PAY PAY PAY!

Now this advert told me it was a "free" backup? 1GB later and im getting smashed by popups and emails. Shocking totally shocking. Im dissapointed by HP for putting this shit on a PC I chose to buy and MyPC Backup for totally bulshitting its way through my front door. Im not a computer genius and was under the impression HP would back my PC up for free as part of the after care service after buying one of there Laptops.

So after quite a few emails basically telling me my family would be kidnapped and that a gang of Somali pirates had somehow entered the internet and were near my PC I decided enough was enough.

I emailed them kindly telling them to leave me alone. Well not so kindly looking back. The response I got was we will offer you a 50% discount?

Load of shit!
Now the problem being this is not a virus it is a programme pre installed by the laptop manufacturer for a fee. Pathetic! Sell a laptop with things that work and are value to the customer - not something you are clearly paid to put on your machines. I have no issue uninstalling this rubbish but I know people who wont be able to and will end up being sucked in. Its frankly disgusting!

My main concern with all this is that if many people I know including my parents were confronted by this bullying behavior they may end up paying out. As far as I was aware protection rackets were illegal these days. My advice today? Remove this rubbish from your PC and find a service that can back your stuff up for free or use and external hard drive. If you like spam emails & pop ups crack on with MyPC Backup.
